Mission trades students will build tiny homes with support from a $7,500 donation by the Canadian Home Builders’ Association Fraser Valley.

Students in the Trade Foundation class at Riverside College will have the chance to gain hands-on experience with the construction of two "tiny suites".

According to a news release, the class introduces students to multiple trades, including carpentry, electrical, and plumbing.

"The tiny suite project serves as a capstone experience where students apply their learning in a real-world setting, building practical skills and confidence," the news release reads.

CHBA BC President Lesa Lacey said the initiative is intended to help students gain practical experience and consider careers in the homebuilding industry.

“Supporting programs like this is an investment in the future of our industry,” said Lacey. “We’re proud to help students gain real-world experience and take meaningful first steps toward rewarding careers in homebuilding.”

Jennifer Cotton, executive officer of CHBA Fraser Valley, said the funding reflects the association’s effort to support trades education and respond to a growing demand for skilled workers in the province’s residential construction sector.
